Welcome. Considering therapy is a courageous first step to finding relief and understanding. Ambivalence or confusion in pursuing treatment is not uncommon. You may recognize you cannot continue to live with the situation or behaviors, but cannot conceive living without them or feel you do not know how to change. As distressful as your current life situation may be, therapy can be a profound turning point. Therapy is as much about self-understanding as it is about change, per se, since your relationship with yourself significantly influences your relationships with others.
Since it is important to find a therapist with whom you feel safe sharing your intimate concerns, Dr. Reyes welcomes your call to discuss any concerns or questions you may have.
Seeking Treatment. Dr. Reyes provides individual psychotherapy for adults seeking assistance with concerns in: Relationships * Life Transitions * Depression * Anxiety * Eating Disorders * Cultural Concerns * Identity * Grief/Loss * Family * Career. She works from a culturally aware and LGB affirming perspective. Individual therapy typically involves weekly 50-minute sessions.
Depending on your current needs, therapy will reflect a balance of exploring the past's influence on the present; understanding beliefs based on those experiences that influence current behaviors; and utilizing the therapeutic relationship to understand how you relate to yourself and others.
A Special Note About Eating and Body Image Concerns. Highly misunderstood or simplified as "control" or vanity concerns, eating disorders have serious mental and physical health implications for the individual. Due to the complexity of eating concerns, Dr. Reyes will discuss your need for concurrent nutritional counseling. She is committed to working with your dietitian, physician, and, when applicable, psychiatrist, to coordinate your care.
